YWAM Leticia

About us

Our purpose

Bringing the Kingdom of God, uniting the Body of Christ to disciple the nations.

JUCUM Leticia is a missionary family from many nations living in the heart of the Amazon with a single desire: to know God and make Him known, from this frontier to the whole world.

Part of a global movement

Part of a global movement

JUCUM Leticia is part of YWAM (Youth With A Mission), a worldwide movement of young people that has sent missionaries to the nations since 1960. Our programs are backed by the University of the Nations. And, like every YWAM base, in Leticia we create new schools and methods to answer the needs of the Amazon.

About us

What makes us different

  • A family of nations

Families from the United States, Brazil, Colombia and the Tikuna people of Peru live under one roof. Here, cross-cultural life is not a concept: it is lived at the table, in prayer and in the daily work.

  • A vision that grows wider

Living alongside other cultures widens your sight. Those who pass through our base discover how far God can reach in every people, language and generation.

  • Gifts that flourish

Art, music, crafts and work done by hand all have a place here. Every culture reflects something of how creative God is, and we celebrate it.

  • Our own boat to reach everyone

Many communities can only be reached by river. That is why JUCUM Leticia has its own boat: the bridge between the base and every bank of the Amazon.

  • More than 200 Indigenous communities

Years of steady journeying have taken us to more than 200 Indigenous communities, whatever country they belong to. The gospel knows no borders.

  • A chorus of languages

We walk alongside the Tikuna, Yagua, Cocama and Marubo peoples, and today also with the Emberá, Katío and Wounaan. That is why a new language is always heard at the base.

Mission · Vision

Mission

We serve the advance of the gospel in the Amazon and in the world: we reach communities and families through preaching the gospel, discipleship and ministries of mercy, so that more and more people come to know our Lord Jesus Christ and become useful disciples for His Kingdom. (Matthew 28:19-20)

Vision

To see communities transformed and discipled by the power of the proclaimed gospel, until they reach their full potential in the Kingdom of God.

Our verse

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
Psalm 2:8

With God

01Know God

YWAM is committed to knowing God, His nature, His character and His ways as they are revealed in the Bible, the inspired and authoritative Word of God. We seek to reflect who He is in every aspect of our life and ministry. The natural overflow of knowing and enjoying fellowship with God is a desire to share Him with others.

03Hear God’s voice

YWAM is committed to creating with God by listening to Him, praying and obeying His commands in big things and small. We depend on hearing His voice individually, together as a team, and in larger gatherings, as an integral part of our decision-making process.

04Practice worship and intercession

YWAM is devoted to worshiping God and is committed to intercessory prayer as integral parts of daily life. We also recognize Satan’s intent to destroy the work of God and trust in the empowering presence of God, the Holy Spirit, to overcome Satan’s strategies in the lives of people and in the affairs of nations.

09Hold a biblical Christian worldview

YWAM is called to a biblical Christian worldview. We believe the Bible, the book for all of life, establishes a clear distinction between good and evil, right and wrong. The practical dimensions of life are no less spiritual than ministry expressions. Everything done in obedience to God is spiritual. We seek to honor God in everything we do, equipping and mobilizing men and women of God to take up roles of service and influence in every sphere of society.

16Practice dependence on God

YWAM is called to practice a life of dependence on God for financial provision. For individuals and for any YWAM team or community, this comes mainly through His people. As God has been generous with us, so we desire to be generous, giving ourselves, our time and our talents to God without expecting any remuneration.

Toward the world

02Make Him known

YWAM is called to make God known throughout the world and in every sphere of society through evangelism, training and mercy ministries. We believe the salvation of souls should lead to the transformation of societies, thus obeying Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations.

05Be visionary

YWAM is called to be visionary, continually receiving, nurturing and releasing fresh vision from God. We support the pioneers of new ministries and methods, always willing to be radical in order to be relevant to every generation, people group and sphere of society. We believe YWAM’s apostolic calling requires the integration of spiritual elders, freedom in the Spirit and relationship, centered on the Word of God.

07Be decentralized

YWAM is a global, Christ-centered, faith-based volunteer movement united by a shared vision, core beliefs, foundational values and relationships. We do not have a centralized structure. Each YWAM ministry has the privilege and spiritual responsibility to develop and maintain healthy relationships with the appropriate authorities and circles of elders.

08Be international and interdenominational

YWAM is international and interdenominational both in its global reach and in its local makeup. We believe that ethnic, linguistic and denominational diversity, together with the redeemed aspects of culture, are positive factors that contribute to the health and growth of the Mission.

With people

06Champion young people

YWAM is called to champion young people. We believe God has gifted and called the young to lead vision and ministry. We commit to value them, trust them, train them, support them, give them room and release them. They are not only the Church of the future; they are the Church of today. We commit to follow where they lead, within God’s will.

13Be relationship-oriented

YWAM is relationship-oriented in our life and work together. We desire to be united through lives of holiness, mutual support, transparency, humility and open communication, rather than depending on structures or rules.

14Value the individual

YWAM is called to value every person. We believe in equal opportunity and justice for all. Created in the image and likeness of God, people of all nationalities, ages and roles have distinct contributions and callings. We are committed to honoring the leadership and ministry gifts given by God to both men and women.

15Value families

YWAM affirms the importance of families serving God together in missions, not only the father and/or mother. We also welcome the inclusion of single-parent families. We foster the development of strong and healthy family units in which every member shares the call to missions and contributes their gifts in a unique and complementary way. We uphold and celebrate the biblical view that God’s intention for holy marriage is between one man and one woman.

17Practice hospitality

YWAM affirms the ministry of hospitality as an expression of God’s character and of the worth of people. We believe it is important to open our hearts, homes, bases and campuses to serve and honor others, our guests, and the poor and needy, not as acts of social protocol but as expressions of generosity.

How we work

10Function in teams

YWAM is called to function in teams in every aspect of ministry and leadership. We believe a combination of complementary gifts, callings, perspectives, ministries and generations working together in unity at every level of our mission provides wisdom and safety. Seeking God’s will and making decisions as a team allows us to be accountable and contributes to greater relationship, motivation, responsibility and ownership of the vision.

11Show servant leadership

YWAM is called to servant leadership as a way of life, rather than a hierarchy of leadership. A servant leader honors the gifts and calling of those under his or her care and protects their rights and privileges. Just as Jesus served His disciples, we stress the importance of those with leadership responsibilities serving those they lead.

12Do first, teach afterward

YWAM is committed to doing first, and then teaching. We believe first-hand experience gives authority to our words. Godly character and God’s calling are more important than an individual’s gifts, abilities and experience.

18Communicate with integrity

YWAM affirms that everything exists because God communicates. Therefore, YWAM is committed to truthful, accurate, timely and relevant communication. We believe good communication is essential for building strong relationships, healthy families and communities, and effective ministry.
